Free things to do in Charmouth

23 September 2016

You don't need to spend money to enjoy yourself in Charmouth. There are lots of things to do in Dorset for free.

Catch a Crab

Who doesn’t love crabbing! The rockpools around Charmouth are terrific homes for lots of different creatures. Low-tide is the best time – you will typically find hermit crabs, sea anemone and razor clams. Be careful, they’re fragile.
Get some tips on safe crabbing on the Gone Crabbing website

Fossil Hunting

Charmouth is one of the best beaches in the UK to find fossils – and that’s no exaggeration. All you need it patience and some good shoes. Typically you will find ammonites and belemnites.

Sea Swimming

Charmouth Beach is great for swimming, there’s just enough waves and shallow paddling to have lots of fun. The breach around Charmouth can be a bit stoney so beach shoes can make it easier.

Walk part of the South Coast Path

The South Coast path stretches from Poole in Dorset all the way round to Minehead – that’s 630 miles. The path passes through Charmouth so you can walk to Lyme Regis or climb Golden Cap.

Climb Golden Cap

Golden Cap offers the highest Cliffs in the South of England. It offers some of the best views along the Jurassic coast. Depending on your energy levels and abilities there are several walks you can enjoy. Here’s just one - Google Maps

Walk the dog

Charmouth is surrounded by lots of green countryside. Head to the beach and walk along the many paths and walk ways around the town. The Town has its restrictions throughout the year. Check out the details below.
